Nuts Puzzle: Sort By Color

The one rule behind every move

You pick a nut by tapping it, then choose the screw it should move to. The move only goes through in two cases: the screw is empty, or the nut on top of it is the same color as the one you are moving. As you progress, the game adds more nuts and a wider spread of colors, and hard mode levels hide the color of a nut until the piece above it has been moved away.

Planning ahead

The game asks you to think several moves ahead and to solve each puzzle in as few moves as you can. A useful habit follows from the rule itself: an empty screw accepts a nut of any color, so clearing one early gives you room to untangle the rest. Before each move, think about what it uncovers: the nut underneath becomes the new top, and it will need somewhere to go as well.

When a plan goes wrong, there are helpers. Undo takes back a move, and its limited uses refill on every level. Reset starts the current level from scratch. If you have an extra screw, clicking the screw icon adds it and frees up space when you are boxed in.

A garden to repair

Alongside the puzzles, the game’s notes describe a garden that you gradually restore by repairing its flowers. There are two currencies: Coins, spent on power-ups, and Nuts, spent on the garden. A chest opens once you reach certain levels and can hold bonuses and more currency. Sound is optional, as the notes say you do not need it to get through levels. It is free to play in your browser.
