Tidying as you search

In My Hotel, hunting and renovating are the same job. Each room starts out messy and chaotic, with items placed cleverly among the disorder, and finding them is how that room gets tidied up. The story therefore moves forward one search at a time: clear the clutter from a room and the old hotel edges a little closer to the one the heroine has in mind.

Looking closely

The scenes are drawn in rich detail and bright color, which is part of the appeal and part of the challenge, since a busy, detailed room gives an object plenty of places to hide. You are not limited to one view, though. You can move across a scene to the left and right and zoom in on any part of it. The most dependable approach is to use both in turn: take in the whole room first, then enlarge any spot that looks crowded before moving on.

When you get stuck

Some objects are meant to be tricky, and the game plans for that. Its smart hint feature is there for the moment you run out of ideas, helping you spot an item that has you beaten. A good habit is to give each room a proper look first, panning and zooming through it, and to keep the hints for the pieces that still escape you. That way most of the finds feel like your own.
