Steering down the mountain

Gravity does the pushing in Skater Kitty. You only steer, left and right, and every problem the road puts in front of you is solved by where you place the board. Concrete barriers and trucks are the things to slip past. Gaps are a different matter, because you cross them by hitting a ramp and flying over. That turns ramps into targets rather than hazards, so keep an eye on the road ahead for the next one.

Fish, turbo and shields

Three pickups turn up on the way down. Fish are worth bonus points. Turbo is a five-second boost that adds speed and lets you smash through roadblocks. A shield lets you survive a crash.

Each asks something different of you. Fish reward steering toward them, which can mean moving closer to trouble than you would otherwise choose. Turbo is the moment to be bold, since roadblocks stop being a danger while it lasts. The game talks about smashing roadblocks, though, so treat trucks as something to steer around even then. A shield is insurance: with one in hand, a crash does not have to end the run.

Fifteen worlds

The road runs through fifteen worlds, and the game names a wide spread of them: the Moon, a volcano, Japan, Norway, the Sahara, New York and Paris, among others. The roads are endless, so how far you get is the real measure of a run, with fish adding bonus points along the way.

On desktop, P pauses and resumes the run and M switches the sound off. On a phone, you steer by dragging the cat itself to the left or right.
