Six ways to race

Challenge Mode is the structured part of the game, with 100 levels to work through, and the listing dares you to see how many you can finish. Chase Mode never runs out of levels and is all about catching up with opponents to prove you are the better driver. Career Mode pits you against rivals on the road to becoming a legend. Time Trial, Endless and Free Ride complete the set of six.

Cars and upgrades

The garage holds 15 supercars. Each one can be upgraded to raise its performance, and customised with a paint job and a set of wheels. Upgrades are the practical side of the garage, since they are what improve how a car performs, while paint and wheels are about looks. If a mission starts to feel out of reach, improving your car is the obvious lever to pull.

Traffic, cameras and places

Much of the racing happens among other vehicles, and the traffic system is described as intelligent, so threading through it is part of the skill rather than scenery. You can follow the action from three angles: from above, from behind the car, or from the driver’s own point of view. The five locations are City, Snow, Farmland, and a mountain setting that comes in a daytime and a night version. The game is rendered in 3D with realistic lighting, and the feature list promises encouragement from Maria along the way.

Setting up the controls

Car handling is meant to be easy, and the keyboard layout covers both WASD and the arrow keys. If you would rather focus on steering through traffic, switch acceleration to automatic; leave it on manual if you want full control of the throttle. H is the horn.
