Burn and fuel

Fire shapes both sides of Emberdeck’s card play, and the setting follows suit, since the spire you climb is burning before you even start. Burn is the game’s damage over time: you stack it on a target and it keeps hurting rather than landing all at once. On the resource side, fire becomes fuel. The more expensive spells need it, and you get it by sacrificing cards from your hand, which turns every big play into a question of which cards you can do without this turn.

Buying time with block

Burn pays off slowly, so some turns go on building damage rather than finishing a fight. Blocking is what keeps you alive through them. The game’s own advice is to block so that you survive the turns you spend setting up, and it is worth taking seriously: a big burn stack does nothing for you if you fall before it has time to work. Before you end a turn, ask whether you have blocked enough for what is coming.

Routes, elites and the Daily Run

The climb is not a straight line. You choose your route on a map, and that is where a real trade-off appears. Elite fights cost you health, but they reward you with relics, so whether one is worth it depends on how much health you can spare for the rest of the spire. For a change of pace, the Daily Run offers a seeded climb, and the game nudges you to come back and keep a streak alive. Emberdeck plays in the browser for free, with nothing to download.
