Snake, with more going on

Worms Zone is a top-down 2D take on Snake, although your hero is not strictly a snake at all but a worm doing its best impression of one. The basic loop will feel familiar: eat, grow longer, avoid crashes. What changes is everything around it, from the bright colours to the crowd of other worms after the same meals, plus potions, coins and a worm you can customise.

Food is limited

The game makes a point of it: food is limited, and there is never enough of it for every worm on the field. That turns eating into a race, and the early worm really does get the food. Eating food and potions is how you grow and pick up bonuses. The speed boost helps you reach a meal before a rival does, but remember the trade-off: while you hold the button, your worm grows more slowly.

Other worms: danger and dinner

Running into another worm is the thing to avoid. The reverse works in your favour, though, because when a rival hits you, it turns into food. Your body is therefore a trap for other worms, and placing it across the path of one can turn its mistake into your next meal. A longer body covers more ground, which gives rivals more chances to make that mistake.

Growing into the biggest

Along the way you collect coins to spend on items and can change your worm’s look. The final aim never changes, though: outgrow everyone else and finish as the biggest and longest worm around.
