Ten armies from history

Each named army has a setting of its own. The Macedonians attack on an island, the Vikings along a frozen coast, the Samurai at the foot of the mountains, Roman legions among the trees of a forest, the Aztecs in the jungle and Spanish conquerors around a castle, with four more armies that the description leaves unnamed. Soldiers on foot come at you together with lancers on horseback, and they keep arriving until the last of them is down.

Three weapons, one crate

Your kit has three parts: the machine gun, the flamethrower and a stock of grenades. You change between them with the number keys or the on-screen switch button. None of them lasts forever. To reload you have to return to the ammo crate, and the crate only refills whatever weapon is in your hands at that moment. So before stepping onto it, switch to the one that has run dry, otherwise you top up the wrong weapon. You also cannot shoot while standing on the crate, so choose a moment when the enemy is not right on top of you.

Keep moving

The game’s own advice comes down to three habits: stay on the move, switch weapons, and head back to the crate to reload. On desktop, the arrow keys handle movement, Space fires and R restarts the level if a battle goes badly. On mobile, a single drag anywhere on the screen moves the soldier and fires at the same time, so one finger does most of the work and the switch button covers the rest.
